CARMEL, Ind. (Oct. 13)—Firestone Building Products Co. plans to build a second thermoplastic olefin roofing membrane plant to serve growing demand in the commercial roofing market, specifically in the Southern and Western U.S.
The Carmel-based division of BFS Diversified Products L.L.C. is reviewing sites for the new manufacturing operation, which would increase its number of UltraPly TPO membrane production lines to three. The other two lines are at the company's Wellford, S.C., facility, which it obtained in 2002 after purchasing the roofing assets of Serrot International Inc.
In addition, Firestone will increase its TPO membrane inventories at its distribution centers to better meet regional demand and help ensure job-site delivery with minimal lead time, the company said.
The expansion of its TPO capabilities will conjoin with Firestone's decision to phase out polyvinyl chloride roofing offerings by mid-2005.
