AKRON (Oct. 12)—Goodyear plans to cut about 250 jobs at its Union City, Tenn., plant and trim production 10 percent by Nov. 1.
The reductions are in response to cutbacks previously announced by auto makers, a company spokeswoman said.
"This will bring our inventory in line with demand," she said, adding that while the company estimates 250 workers will be laid off, an exact figure has not been finalized. All are expected to be full-time employees, she said.
During the last month, both Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. said they planned to reduce production in the fourth quarter.
