LAKE FORREST, Ill. (Sept. 23)—Tenneco Automotive Inc. has begun manufacturing elastomer products at its Ermua, Spain, facility to support its European customer base better.
The company previously made elastomer goods only in North and South America, where it has built up a sizable business, according to a spokeswoman. "We have quite a presence in the U.S." she said. Its primary elastomer production facility is based in Milan, Ohio.
"We did not make elastomer products (in Europe) in the past," the spokeswoman said. "So we're taking our experience in North America and moving it there."
The Ermua plant makes ride control components and will continue to do so, she said. The addition of elastomer products will not create the need for an expansion at the factory, she added.
Tenneco generated an estimated $215 million in elastomer-related sales last year out of total corporate sales of $3.77 billion.
