Rubber components that are used to construct vehicle tires are typically separated from each other with films or fabrics called “liners”. The liners prevent the rubber components from sticking to each other and to other surfaces during storage and also ensure cleanliness of the components during their transport to the tire building machinery. Some liners have a texture which can emboss the surface of the rubber components. Tires that are properly vulcanized may show residual evidence of a “liner pattern”. Numerous tires were sectioned and evaluated to determine if the presence of the liner patterns affected the performance of the tires. The results of the study will be presented.
