AKRON (Sept. 15)—Goodyear will invest $30 million in its Fayetteville, N.C., plant for an expanded warehouse and additional tire production equipment.
The new project will begin at the Kelly-Springfield plant in early October and be complete by the end of 2005. Akron-based Goodyear said the equipment will increase the plant´s ability to produce Kelly and custom-brand tires. The warehouse expansion will add 196,000 square feet to the facility.
The outlay is on top of an already announced $17.7 million project to build larger tires at the facility.
"There´s no question that the plant´s performance in recent years has played a big part in the decision to invest there," said Brant Schnackenberg, vice president of manufacturing for Goodyear´s North American Tire unit.
No jobs will be added at the plant as part of the expansion.
