CANTON, Ohio (Aug. 27)—Collins & Aikman Corp. plans to shift production of automotive floor mats from its Canton factory to one in Holmesville, Ohio.
The move—to be completed by mid-October—will mean the loss of about 50 of the 230 jobs at the Canton plant, according to a company spokesman. Collins & Aikman will continue to make mastics-based sound dampening products at Canton and also be a rubber-processing center to supply other C&A North American operations.
The spokesman said the transfer is one of about a dozen consolidation projects now taking place throughout C&A and will centralize mat production at the Holmesville facility. The firm currently employs about 350 there. He said there may be some addition of employees in Holmesville, but no decisions have yet been made.
