Wacker Silicones has developed a new generation of thermoplastic silicone elastomers that combine the typical properties of silicones with advantages of a thermoplastic elastomer. A transparent polydimethylsiloxane/urea copolymer, Geniomer is cured through a physical process instead of a catalyst-based method, resulting in a high purity compound with no by-products, the company said. Targeting medical, automotive and other applications, Geniomer offers good thermoplastic processability, release and slip properties, low-temperature flexibility, storage stability, water repellency and tensile strength, the Wacker-Chemie GmbH unit said.
