NORCROSS, Ga. (July 1)—Regent Medical Ltd. has completed its purchase of the Regent Biogel glove and Hibi antiseptics businesses from SSL International P.L.C.
Norcross-based Regent Medical, a management buyout group funded through London-based Apax Partners & Co., paid $310 million for the Regent and Hibi businesses, which together generate about $220 million in annual sales. The businesses were $43 million in the black on an operating basis for the year ended March 31, according to SSL.
The deal creates a company "with the resources necessary to be an infection control leader in a continually changing global health care community," said Stuart Heap, who will lead the new business venture.
Regent Medical, with two plants in Malaysia, produces only powder-free surgical gloves, both in latex and non-latex versions.
SSL continues to make and sell the Durex line of condoms.
