BIRMINGHAM, England (June 29)—Goodyear Dunlop Tyres U.K. Ltd. is proposing to redevelop its Wolverhampton, England, plant into a mixed industrial and residential site and is awaiting planning permission from local authorities.
Goodyear Dunlop would retain and invest in raw material mixing, calendering and truck tire retreading operations at the site but would phase out the production of agricultural tires. The company currently employs about 500 and claims the plan would protect many of those jobs as well as create new job opportunities through the regeneration of the unused parts of the site, said Andrew Harper, Goodyear Dunlop's production director at Wolverhampton.
Goodyear Dunlop did not say how much of the 90-acre site it would retain for industrial use but said the remainder would be redeveloped for residential housing, social and leisure facilities.
