TIMISOARA, Romania (June 25)—Continental A.G. is adding rubber mixing capacity to its passenger tire plant in Timisoara, which was set up four years ago as a modular "satellite" facility.
Word of the upgrade comes from Italian internal mixer maker Techint-Pomini, which is supplying an intermeshing mixer to Conti for the factory.
Conti set up the plant in 1999-2000 at a cost of $60 million. It is rated at 22,000 units daily and uses Conti's Modular Manufacturing Process, which involves completing production of tires initiated elsewhere.
The Romanian company, Continental Automotive Products S.R.L., has ordered one VIC275 mixer—Variable Intermeshing Clearance—and TDE 11—Twin dump extruder—but Techint-Pomini said in a release the project envisages a hall with up to four mixing lines.
