UNION CITY, Tenn. (May 18)—Federal and state authorities are investigating alleged racial threats at the Goodyear tire facility in Union City.
Marshall Brown, a machine cleaner at the plant, reported an incident April 29 in which a noose and a threatening letter containing racial epithets were left in his work area. Other black workers at the plant told the Associated Press and other news sources of similar incidents that were not reported to authorities.
In a statement, Goodyear said it was cooperating fully with the investigation and that the company "is deeply committed to maintaining a harassment-free environment for its employees."
Officials at the local sheriff's office and the Memphis, Tenn. office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation could not be reached for comment.
