HORGEN, Switzerland (Feb. 20)—Dow Chemical Co. has unveiled a new family of specialty propylene-ethylene copolymers designed to improve a range of performance parameters for flexible and rigid packaging producers, processors of thermoplastic elastomers and olefins and converters in the consumer products sector.
Versify plastomers and elastomers are available now only in trial quantities. Dow plans to convert existing facilities to produce the materials on a commercial scale in the second half of 2004.
Versify is based on "revolutionary" catalyst technology that gives the materials narrower molecular weight distribution and broader crystallinity distribution than comparable metallocene-catalyzed products that yield improved temperature performance.
Application benefits range from reduced material costs to increased sound-deadening capability, and from better comfort fit to improved durability. Dow said.
