TOKYO (Feb. 20)—Ansell Ltd. and Sumitomo Corp. will form a joint venture in the next month to import and market industrial gloves in Japan.
Red Bank, N.J.-based Ansell will own 49 percent of the venture—to be called Ansell Sumisho Ltd.—while Sumitomo will have a 43-percent stake. The remaining 8 percent will be owned by Shinwa Corp., a Japanese producer of non-woven fabric.
Ansell will manufacture the gloves at its plants in Asia and Sumitomo will head up import operations. The industrial gloves are used primarily in factories and for food preparation.
Ansell Sumisho hopes to snare a chunk of the estimated $380 million Japanese industrial glove market within the next five years—part of it through company consultations and custom-made gloves.
