SHANGAHI, China (Feb. 9)—Cabot Corp. has completed a 50,000 metric-ton expansion of its carbon black plant in Shanghai and formed a holding company to manage its business in China.
The factory is operated by Shanghai Cabot Chemical Co. Ltd., a 70/30 joint venture between Cabot and Shanghai Coking Co. Ltd. The expansion, which was budgeted at about $25 million, brings annual capacity of the facility to around 130,000 tons, Cabot said.
In addition, Cabot has established a new holding company, Cabot (China) Ltd., to manage all of its investments, businesses and resources in China. Cabot will also plans to build a laboratory in Shanghai to support its customers in the Asia Pacific region, the company said.
