WASHINGTON (Feb. 3)—The U.S. Senate has voted 75-11 to proceed to floor consideration of its version of highway and transit reauthorization legislation.
This year's bill—inherently of interest to tire manufacturers, dealers and retreaders—is doubly so because of the plans of Sen. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, to introduce a measure to insert in the legislation mandating disclosure of a tire's date of manufacture to consumers.
The Tire Industry Association already has written DeWine, telling him that such a requirement would be counterproductive before completion of the tire aging tests his bill also mandates. Meanwhile, groups such as the Ohio Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association are urging their members to voice their concerns about the DeWine measure with their senators and representatives in Congress.
