COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (Jan. 28)—Honeywell International Inc. plans to double capacity this year for DSP dimensionally stable polyester fiber at a joint venture plant in Kaiping, China, to meet growing demand for the tire and hose reinforcement product in Asia.
Honeywell declined to disclose the value of the project or the plant's capacity. The expanded capacity is due on stream by late 2004, the company said.
The unit opened in 1996 as a joint venture between Honeywell predecessor Allied-Signal and China Kaiping Polyester Enterprise. It was expanded and upgraded in 1999 to accommodate production of the DSP product.
The venture operates as part of Honeywell's Specialty Materials business unit.
