AKRON (Dec. 15) – Freightliner L.L.C., North America's largest manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks, has named Goodyear as its standard tire supplier, the Akron tire maker announced Dec. 15.
Goodyear will supply a variety of truck tires for Portland, Ore.-based Freightliner's various commercial vehicle needs, including its Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star, American LaFrance and Thomas Built Buses vehicle brands.
Freightliner has started communicating the decision to its network of truck dealers, Goodyear said. Selection as the standard tire supplier rolls over into additional benefits as well, including being the likely choice when it comes time to replace original equipment tires, said Steve McClellan, Goodyear vice president of commercial tire systems.
"Being awarded new business is a testament to what Goodyear offers, in terms of products, service and a network of commercial outlets," McClellan said. "And having a customer like Freightliner choose Goodyear to be its standard tire supplier really makes us proud."
