PLYMOUTH, Mich. (Dec. 10)—Metaldyne Corp., a manufacturer of rubber-to-metal bonded goods, has praised President Bush for his Dec. 4 decision to eliminate tariffs on steel imports.
"The elimination of the tariffs will enable Metaldyne to obtain steel at globally competitive prices, which will improve our competitive position," said Metaldyne President and CEO Tim Leuliette in a news release.
Bush decided to kill the tariffs after Japan, China and Europe threatened retaliation in the form of tariffs on U.S. goods. The Rubber Manufacturers Association has protested high tariffs on steel wire rod imported from several countries, but the President's decision did not address the steel wire rod issue, said Ann Wilson, RMA vice president of government affairs.
