WINNSBORO, La. (Oct. 6)—Ground has been broken at the Winnsboro Industrial Park for Winnsboro Rubber, a crumb rubber grinder partly funded through a $1.6 million state development grant. Winnsboro Rubber was the dream of a Winnsboro man who died before the project could receive state approval, said Tana Trichel, president of Louisiana's Macon Ridge Economic Development Region. Trichel secured the help of Vicksburg, Miss.-based PolyVulc USA, which will run the plant under town ownership for 10 years and will have the business turned over to it if it meets its obligation to create jobs for Winnsboro residents. The site will employ about 18 workers to start, with the potential to employ approximately 20 more, according to Trichel.
