DUSSELDORF, Germany (Sept. 15)—Degussa A.G. plans to expand annual capacity at its Chinese joint venture carbon black plant by 40 percent to more than 70,000 metric tons by year-end 2004. Degussa also is exploring "additional growth options at other Chinese locations" to meet "booming demand" for high quality carbon black, the company said. Degussa did not disclose the value of the expansion project, to take place at its Qingdao Degussa Chemical Co. Ltd. venture in Qingdao/Shandong. The joint venture partners are Zhenya Carbon Black Co. and Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungs GmbH.
