AKRON (Sept. 4)—Goodyear has been awarded a three-year, $54.5 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to manufacture combat vehicle track for the U.S. Army's Bradley tank, the M9 Ace armored combat earthmover and five other major weapons systems. Demand for the track, made of both rubber and metal, will help determine the length of the contract, but work is expected to begin in late 2003 and run through Sept. 30, 2007, a company spokesman said. Production will be handled at Goodyear's St. Marys, Ohio, plant.
