MACON, Mo. (Sept. 4)—Dash Recycled Rubber, a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Dash Multi-Corp, has laid off 23 of its 43 workers in Macon. But the company hopes to use the downtime at the Macon plant to make it more efficient, with a goal of rehiring the laid-off workers and maybe hiring more eventually. "If we had felt there wouldn't be opportunities to do what we wanted to do with the plant, the closure would have been complete," said Gregory J. Divis, senior vice president of Dash Multi-Corp. Divis said Dash is talking to Missouri state officials about programs available to assist the Macon facility in its efforts to expand.
