INDIO, Calif. (Aug. 21)—Plaintiffs attorney Joseph L. Lisoni said he will seek certification of his class action lawsuit against Bridgestone/Firestone in the Superior Court of California at Indio in February. Lisoni wants the court to order the recall of some 30 million Firestone Steeltex tires. The Pasadena, Calif.-based lawyer also said he will re-petition the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for an investigation of Steeltex tires, concentrating this time on the tires' performance on ambulances. He added he has reports of Steeltex tire failures on ambulances in 22 states. A BFS spokesman noted that in denying Lisoni's last petition, NHTSA found Steeltex tires performed better than most tires in their class. "Lisoni's like a broken record, and keeps throwing out the same inaccurate statements," the spokesman said. "He wants to spread fear and doubt where none should exist."
