HANOVER, Germany (Aug. 21)—DaimlerChrysler A.G.'s top-of-the-line Maybach luxury car is being launched with Continental A.G.'s ContiSupportRing run-flat system as standard equipment. The CSR is a steel ring mounted flexibly to the rim that provides support in the case of pressure loss. The CSR allows the driver to continue at 50 mph to a nearby service station. Conti also is supplying the tires—ContiPremiumContact, 275/50R W XL, for summer service and ContiWinterContact TS 790, 275/50R H XL, as the winter tire. The sizes are exclusive fitments for the Maybach. The Maybach represents the pinnacle of DaimlerChrysler's luxury and state-of-the-art vehicle engineering, Conti said. Available in 18.5- and 20-foot lengths, the Maybach is powered by a 550-horsepower, twin-turbo V-12 that delivers a top speed of 155 mph and a 0-60 mph acceleration of 5.4 seconds. The Maybach 57, the shorter version, starts at $308,000, while the extended 62 starts at $359,500.
