CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Aug. 19)—Fenner Dunlop Conveyor Belting Americas will temporarily idle its Bracebridge, Ontario, manufacturing facility beginning Jan. 1, 2004, because of a soft North American conveyor belt market. The shutdown will result in 90 layoffs. The firm, a division of Fenner P.L.C., will keep its customer service and application engineering office going at the plant to service its Canadian market. The factory will be mothballed but kept in operating condition, the company said, to allow it to quickly reactivate the site if product demand boosts capacity needs. Fenner Dunlop did not say how long it thought the shutdown would last.
