AKRON (July 30)—Goodyear Engineered Products will close its Cartersville, Ga., fabric plant, lay off 120 salaried and hourly workers and sell its equipment to Industrial Specialty Fabrics by Oct. 1. The decision was based on future investments to keep pace with changing fabric industry technology, said Jim Pecorelli, director of manufacturing. The factory has been a primary rubber-coated fabric producer for the company's North American conveyor belt facilities. After it receives the new equipment, Industrial Specialty Fabrics of Hogansville, Ga., will become a supplier of fabric for Goodyear.
