HARBEL, Liberia (July 16)—Bridgestone/Firestone's natural rubber plantation near Harbel was able to ship latex and block rubber the week of July 8 from the Port of Monrovia, after interruptions caused by the civil war in Liberia. "Our people have done an extraordinary job keeping the facility open under very hazardous conditions," a BFS spokesman said. At this time President Bush is still considering whether to send 2,000 U.S. troops to Liberia as peacekeepers, as the United Nations and West African leaders have requested.
