PARIS (June 2) – Hutchinson S.A.'s sales inched up 1.3 percent last year, to $2.55 billion, as higher sales in North America and Europe were offset by lower sales in Asia and Latin America. The company, a subsidiary of France's TotalFinaElf S.A. oil and petrochemical conglomerate, did not disclose earnings nor provide any commentary on the year's performance. Capital spending was down 15.4 percent, to $108 million, while research and development spending was unchanged at $116.9 million. Sales in North America were up about 5 percent to nearly $690 million.
