Atofina has three blowing agents that can be used in rigid polyurethane foam applications in place of Forane 141b, use of which is being restricted under the Montreal Protocol. Forane 142b and Forane 142b/22 are hydrochlorofluorocarbon gases with good solubility in raw materials and good properties at low temperatures. Forane 134a, a zero ozone depletion potential, non-flammable hydrofluorocarbon gas, is a good long-term substitute for HCFC-141b in applications where a gaseous blowing agent can be used, Atofina said.
