GUTTENBERG, N.J. (May 29)—Tire recycling firm Recovery Technologies Group held a grand opening for its new tire grinding plant in Moncks Corner, S.C., almost simultaneously with an announcement it would establish two facilities in upstate New York. RTG purchased the former Santee River Rubber L.L.C. crumb rubber plant at Moncks Corner March 1, 2002, in a bankruptcy auction, and now has 45 employees in a factory with an annual processing capacity of 2.6 million tires. Meanwhile, the Guttenberg-based firm said it will have an advanced-technology tire recycling center in Albany by late August, and also plans to lease 40,000 square feet in the Rotterdam Industrial Park in Rotterdam, N.Y., for yet another facility. RTG claims to be the largest tire recycler in North America, with 17 facilities in the U.S. and Canada processing more than 40 million tires annually.
