NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 16)—Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire L.L.C. is evaluating "Glyph" technology for marking and tracking tires. The InfoGlyph laser-made mark, developed by InfoGlyph USA Inc., can engrave data that is both visible and barely visible to the human eye. The glyph can provide production data as well as more complete read/write capability. When fully implemented, InfoGlyph can identify the date of manufacture, specific production information, and make identifying the ultimate purchaser of the tire easier and more efficient, Bridgestone/Firestone said, by asking car makers to use a standard reader to decode the markings and tie them to a vehicle identification number. Bridgestone/Firestone is testing the new marking method and beginning development on a prototype marking station.
