SACRAMENTO, Calif. (May 7)—The California Integrated Waste Management Board, working in tandem with the Rubber Manufacturers Association, plans its 5th California Scrap Tire Conference for Sept. 2-4 in Sacramento. Among the topics to be discussed at the meeting are U.S.-Mexico scrap tire issues; civil engineering, including the use of scrap tires for earthquake dampening; reports on scrap tire programs from surrounding states; rubberized asphalt, in which California is a national leader; retreading; tire-derived fuel; and CIWMB grant programs to tire recyclers. Both the CIWMB and the RMA will post information about the conference on their Web sites, www.ciwmb.ca.gov/tire and www.rma.org/scrap_tires.
