WASHINGTON (April 18)—Shipments of tread rubber will increase 1.4 percent over 2002 figures, according to the Rubber Manufacturers Association's Tread Rubber Market Analysis Committee. The 2003 shipments will produce 16.45 million retreaded tires in the U.S. A soft first quarter is expected to be offset by strong growth the remainder of the year, fueled mainly by the construction industry, the RMA panel said. Positive freight trends will continue to drive tread shipment growth through 2005 at an annual rate of 2.7 percent, it said.
