CINCINNATI (April 17)—Goodyear and the United Steelworkers of America have agreed to a day-to-day extension of two master contracts covering workers at 11 Goodyear and Dunlop tire and rubber plants, according to a joint April 16 statement. The pacts were to expire at midnight April 19. A separate master agreement covering Goodyear's hourly employees at three Kelly-Springfield factories lapses July 6. The USWA chose the Akron tire maker as its bargaining target company on April 7. The extension gives negotiators an opportunity to further consider and discuss proposals, union and company officials said. Either side can end the day-to-day agreement with 72-hour notification. The union also reached a day-to-day extension with Michelin North America Inc. for its three unionized Uniroyal Goodrich facilities, a USWA spokesman said. Similar extensions are expected for contracts with Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc. and eight tire and rubber plants, the spokesman said. The Uniroyal Goodrich and Bridgestone agreements expire April 23.
