HARPERSFIELD, Ohio (April 15)—Park-Ohio Holdings Inc. plans to lay off 161 workers at its Geneva Rubber plant in Harpersfield and close the facility between June 3 and 17. The company did not immediately return calls seeking comment. United Steelworkers of America Local 905 representing hourly employees at the factory claims Park-Ohio has moved equipment to its refurbished plant in Cleveland and allowed the International Union of Electrical-Communications Workers of America to organize at the new manufacturing site. The USWA local has filed grievances regarding the outsourcing of work covered under its collective bargaining unit as well as what it feels was a blatant disregard for a contractual agreement to its automatic recognition at any new Park-Ohio facilities in the state of Ohio.
