DETROIT (April 3)—Automotive News has postponed its Automotive News Group China Congress amid concern about the spread of the respiratory disease known as SARS in Asia. The move to postpone the April 21-23 event in Shanghai, China, follows the World Health Organization´s global alert against travel to Hong Kong and Guangdong Province in southern China. While Shanghai is outside this region, organizers said they are concerned about the further spread of the disease. "We are doing this with some reluctance," said David Sedgwick, Automotive News' project editor who helped organize the event. "We had a strong lineup of speakers, and we were attracting a sizeable number of registrations. But we do not want to jeopardize the health of our conference participants." Conference organizer Libby Irwin said a new date will be announced in weeks.
