PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (Feb. 26)—The Rubber Manufacturers Association took its tire safety road show to the Palm Springs area Feb. 24, where it was holding its annual general meetings. The association held a "tire safety day" at America's Tire Company in Cathedral City., a suburb of Palm Springs, while the group held its meetings in nearby Rancho Mirage. Drivers were encouraged in radio spots to stop by merica's Tire Company that day to get a free tire pressure check, tire gauge, safety brochure and a windshield reminder decal for their car. The RMA said its latest research shows only 14 percent of California drivers properly check their tire pressure. The association started its consumer tire safety campaign following recalls and passage of tire safety legislation by Congress.
