AKRON (Feb. 21)—A. Schulman Inc. has started color concentrates manufacturing at its Mexican factory and opened a sales and marketing office in Japan. The two new lines at A. Schulman de Mexico S.A. de C.V.'s San Luis Potosi, Mexico, plant can produce 5 million pounds of color concentrates annually for film and packaging materials, consumer products and some automotive applications. The $3.5 million investment included adding 40,000 square feet to the facility's 147,000-sq.-ft. production space. The Tokyo sales office—the firm's first in Japan—will target Japanese auto makers to specify A. Schulman products for vehicles to be produced in North America or those headed for Japan and Asia only. Yutaka Kitao, business development manager for the company's Far East automotive division, is in charge of the sales and marketing office.
