AKRON (Feb. 21)—Rising prices for oil and oil derivatives have prompted synthetic rubber and carbon black suppliers to raise prices for their products. At least three carbon black producers—Cabot Corp., Columbian Chemicals Corp. and Sid Richardson Carbon Co.—have announced increases averaging 19 percent, according to rubber processors who have received price change notifications. Cabot's increase is effective March 10, and the Columbian and Sid Richardson hikes take place March 15. Goodyear and DSM Copolymer Inc. told customers recently they are raising some SR prices March 1. Goodyear will increase prices 3 cents a pound for its Butene polybutadiene and Plioflex emulsion SBR, and 5 cents per pound for its Natsyn polyisoprene. DSM Copolymer's price for emulsion SBR will rise 3 cents a pound.
