OSAKA, Japan (Feb. 7)—Japanese company Toyobo Co. Ltd. said it is progressing with a plan to establish new markets for foam materials based on DSM Elastomers thermoplastic vulcanizate Sarlink, as well as its own Pelprene polyester-based thermoplastic elastomer. Toyobo and the division of DSM N.V., which formed a partnership in January 2000 to develop markets for Sarlink in Japan, especially in automotive applications. The companies now are working with Youngbo Chemical Co., Ltd. of South Korea to develop technology to manufacture thermoplastic resin foamed sheets. "We aim to expand our market for substitutes for rubbers, urethane, PVC and other products by forming these elastomers into foamed sheets," said Toyobo said. These materials are already receiving a positive welcome from automobile and construction material manufacturers, according to Toyobo.
