MIDLAND, Mich. (Feb. 6)—Dow Corning Corp. will acquire Tyco Electronics' Power Materials business unit to broaden its product line and boost its share of the fabricated interface materials market. The purchase of the Power Materials unit—formerly known as Raychem—will be completed by the end of the first quarter, Dow Corning said. Via the recently signed agreement, Dow Corning Electronics—a business unit of Dow Corning—will gain control of several lines, including fabricated thermal interface materials, electromagnetic-interference shielding, radio-frequency-interference shielding and some connector sealing products. Sales of these products—sold under the trademark names HeatPath, GelTek and dBseal—made up about $9 million in sales in 2002, the company said.
