SANTA ANA, Calif. (Dec. 31)—The trial of a man accused of killing auto racing legend and Max-Trac Tire Co. founder Mickey Thompson again has been delayed. The Dec. 9 trial of Michael F. Goodwin—arrested a year ago for the 1988 murders of Thompson and his wife, Trudy—was postponed at the request of the defense until April 7, 2003, according to the Orange County District Attorney´s office. Scheduling conflicts earlier postponed a July 8 trial date. Defense attorneys want Goodwin's trial moved from Orange County Superior Court to Los Angeles. The Thompsons were shot to death in the driveway of their Bradbury, Calif., home by two unidentified shooters who remain at large. Goodwin, a former business partner of Thompson, is charged with two counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the case.
