HOUSTON (Dec. 18)—Huntsman Polymers Corp. and Ube Industries Ltd. have agreed to terminate an exclusive Huntsman technology license Ube held to manufacture and market amorphous polyalphaolefin. Under the pact, Huntsman will market its APAO to Ube's Asian customers and obtain from Ube technical information and intellectual property developed by Ube for the 12 years it held the Huntsman license. Ube previously said it planned to close its APAO manufacturing facility in Sakai, Japan. The deal will make Huntsman "the leading APAO supplier to the rapidly expanding Asian market, and the only supplier of butene copolymers," according to David Hovde, APAO business director.
