WAYNE, Pa. (Dec. 2)—Elemica, an e-business company for the chemicals industry, has carried out its first transaction involving two participants, Bayer A.G. and Degussa A.G., and an unnamed global tire maker. The two suppliers achieved more accurate order processing as well as work-in-process inventory reductions via Elemica's tire and rubber industry connection, the e-business firm said. The hub-to-hub connection enables Degussa to interact electronically with global tire customers, according to Thomas Ruppersberg, director of e-business and SCM at Degussa's Advanced Fillers & Pigments. "This is a big step forward to generate mutual benefit from supply chain collaboration and integration," Ruppersberg said. "Elemica's hub-to-hub relationship now enables Bayer to link our supply chain with the supply chains of multiple customers in the tire and rubber industry through one industry connection," added Udo Lindemann, global e-business project manager, at Bayer's Rubber Business Group.
