TIMISIORA, Romania (Nov. 26)—Continental A.G.'s ContiTech non-tire products business has opened its power transmission belting factory in Timisoara. An initial investment of $6 million allowed ContiTech to further expand its production capacities at a low-cost location, Konrad Mueller, head of the ContiTech power transmission systems business unit and general manager of ContiTech Romania S.R.L., said at the opening celebration. By year-end the new unit will start manufacturing automotive drive belts on 37,800 square feet of floor space at the factory. The final expansion by the end of 2005 will see 150 employees making about 4 million drive belts annually. Customers include all the major auto makers, Conti said in a statement.
