LANSING, Mich. (Nov. 19)—The Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services presented Huntsman Polyurethanes' Auburn Hills, Mich., facility with a Rising Star award for its workplace safety and health record. The Michigan Voluntary Protection Programs Rising Star award is given to companies with safety and health management systems that go beyond state occupational safety and health act standards. The plant's incidence and lost workday rates are well below state average for its industrial class, the department said. The facility's 89 regular staff and six full-time contract employees conduct research and development for Huntsman Polyurethanes' Derivatives Division, which serves the furniture, footwear, automotive and adhesive coatings and elastomers sectors.
