SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (Nov. 1)—After debating the possible divestiture of its European original equipment wiper business this past year, Federal-Mogul Corp. said it plans to not only retain the line, but push to "aggressively develop" both it and its Champion-brand spark plug business on the continent. In the U.S., Federal-Mogul's Anco replacement wiper business is market leading with a 41-percent share in 2001, according to company. But in Europe its wipers garner only a 10-percent replacement share, ranking them third in that market last year. Federal-Mogul said it plans to combine its North American- and European-derived technologies to come up with a global leadership position in spark plugs, ignition products and wipers.
