DETROIT (Oct. 28)—The Big Three car makers plan to make three online products or tools offered through the auto maker Web site Covisint L.L.C. common business practices, to reduce complexity and duplicate investments for parts makers. Covisint's auction, catalog and advanced quality planning software developed by PowerWay will become the standard at DaimlerChrysler A.G., Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp., the companies said in a written release. "The intent of the three of us supporting these three Covisint products is to provide a clear and consistent message to the supply base that we are all looking to simplify our business processes," Bo Andersson, vice president of GM's worldwide purchasing, production control and logistics, said in the release. "Clearly, these Covisint planning and purchasing tools can help all of us to eliminate waste and improve efficiency and should be welcomed by the entire industry as standards."
