MARIETTA, Ga. (Oct. 14)—Columbian Chemicals Co.'s carbon black production facility in El Dorado, Ark., will remain closed indefinitely. The company idled the plant in October 2001. Columbian said it will monitor market conditions and plans to reopen the El Dorado factory when conditions warrant and if it is economically feasible to restart the plant. "El Dorado is a great plant with outstanding products, but the North American market is not ready to absorb this additional capacity," said Columbian President James P. Berresse.
