CLEVELAND (Oct.11)—PolyOne Corp. is embarking on a multiphase expansion of its Asian business, initiating improvements at the company's existing manufacturing facilities, and adding a customer support laboratory in southern China, a company news release said. The firm said it is seeking customer demand in the region that is having an economic boom. PolyOne is projecting growth of more than 30 percent in the Asian business, which totaled about $50 million in 2001, the firm said. The first phase of the expansion program includes opening a customer support laboratory in Shenzhen, China, this year; expanding a compounding facility in Suzhou, China, that will produce a wide range of polymer compounds; and completing the company's plant in Pudong, China. The new facility has space for additional lines, a new office area and expanded laboratory space. The company will add equipment by 2003 and is looking into evaluating construction of new production facilities in the area.
